Your country? Switzerland

Your organisation? Euresearch

Your job title? NCP Digital & Energy

Your first and last name? Eva Bøgelund

Why did you decide to become a Cluster 4 NCP? love exploring new research and as NCP I get in touch with excellent researchers and innovators from a broad range of scientific disciplines who are operating at the forefront of their field. This is super exciting!

What do you like most in your daily professional life? Supporting researchers and innovators in translating their ideas into projects and finding the best funding opportunity for their needs is very rewarding. I also like the way we help build bridge between the national and European R&I communities and digital initiatives.

What would you say are the most promising areas of digital in your country? Switzerland has many excellent R&I organisations, both universities and businesses, that are active in digital topics. For example, Swiss entities are world-leading in the field of (ultra-)high-resolution weather/climate modelling and use high performance computing – leveraging expertise from multiple digital areas including sensing technology, data collection, and development of computing and data infrastructure/architectures – to understand the complex interaction between weather and climate. These efforts align with the European ambition to create a digital model of Earth (Destination Earth), where Swiss researchers played a key role in developing the strategy for the Destination Earth concept. In addition to European collaborations, Switzerland has national initiatives for the semiconductor sector, hosts multiple digital-related National Centres of Competence (e.g., Digital Fabrication, Computational Design and Discovery of Novel Materials, Spin Qubits in Silicon), a national Supercomputing Centre, and has launched a national Quantum Initiative. Swiss entities also have activities in the context of the European Open Science Cloud helping to ensure open sharing and access to research data across borders and scientific disciplines.

How helpful is the IDEALIST network for you? The IDEALIST network is crucial for us to stay up to date on developments related to Horizon Europe Digital topics. In the IDEALIST Network we learn from each other through trainings and workshops and exchange experiences and best practices with NCPs in other countries. This ensures that we as NCPs can provide the best support for the Digital R&I communities across Europe.

Tell us what you would like to share with your peers as inspiration? Collaborative research across borders is essential to tackle global challenges and the Horizon Europe Programme is a unique way to contribute to this effort. Your NCP can help you identify how you can get involved - contact them today!
