PROJECT OVERVIEW
Development and deployment of an automated supervisory power management system on Distribution Networks and new business model for the Distribution System Operators (DSO).
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Proposal Outline:
The project consortium, currently consisting of 3 energy sector SMEs and 3 research organisations from the UK, Croatia, Bulgaria and Spain, aims to integrate ICT and communication technologies with an innovative intelligent power control system to draw a road map for an automated supervisory management system able to monitor, drive and support the efficient distribution of power in complex power networks. The aim is to reduce the down time, increase the efficiency of supply on distribution networks, and continuously monitor and balance the effect of load changes, to favourably impact on quality of supply, network maintenance, services, power consumption and costs.
PARTNER PROFILE SOUGHT
Required skills and Expertise:
Required Skills and Expertise:
The consortium is looking for SME partners who are:
· expert in large digital data handling to develop robust, efficient data mining system whose output will help operators plan, observe and adjust the behaviour of their distribution networks in near real time and furthermore being able to adapt so that the results of actual interventions on the system will influence its future recommendations, allowing the system to evolve towards optimum function. We recognize that no single machine learning approach will be both fast enough and sufficiently robust. Therefore the project will aim to develop ensemble methods to optimise a range of approaches within the performance, accuracy, and adaptability spectra;
· Telecommunication experts to collect and transmit data from sensors mounted on power lines and from Smart Meters, widely used in the distribution system, to data collection centres to process, analyse, display and use to control power supplies:
· Power Network operators and Smart Meters suppliers to validate the developed system
Description of work to be carried out by the partner(s) sought:
Our approach will provide the necessary qualitative and quantitative data for research organisations and city power supply planners to research, plan and develop efficient future power networks and extensions to provide the required high quality electrical supply for European cities and for the future electricity demands of businesses, homes, transport, etc.
The road map is to develop an information and control infrastructure for a future power system to boost future productivity and growth of this sector. Distribution System Operators (DSO) will play a crucial role in the acquisition and sharing of data, and particular attention will be given to new DSO business models to provide the necessary incentives. A full validation programme will be carried out to demonstrate the correctness of the new approach.
