UASBA – Unified Application of Speech Recognition to Business Applications

PROJECT OVERVIEW
PS ID:

PS-DE-81138

Status:

Closed

Lately, voice recognition systems have been deeply integrated in consumer products such as smart phones, cars and to some extend also in consumer close service points. These voice recognition solutions seem to be appliance/platform independent and able to navigate thru entire consumer applications. Dialing, maintenance of address books, navigation systems in cars, service applications of airlines, banking, etc. are examples of such applications. This has helped manufacturers of consumer products to position their offerings with a competitive advantage: efficient hand free usage of gadgets by voice with little or no training effort. Very often we have seen consumer markets to use technologies which later on end up as technologies used in professional industrial environments and vice versa.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Proposal Outline:

Even though the fundamental technology is available and ready for production use, very little has happened to trigger and operate ERP systems and other business applications like proposal systems, archiving systems, CRM systems, etc. by voice. The advantages are obvious:

  •  Large efficiency gains, especially realizable by multimodal user interfaces that combine GUI and voice interaction
  •  Increased attractiveness for software solutions
  •  Marketing-relevant innovation and Unique Selling Point
  •  Hands-free operation and fully process integrated application usage, e.g. for maintenance staff
  •  Highly mobile application handling via DECT or mobile phones
  •  Comfortable application usage by visually handicapped (e.g. text blindness ) or paraplegic humans
  •  Little to no computer know-how needed to operate a voice-driven user interface
  •  Support of different languages with automated adaption to target language in backend
  •  No computer equipment needed at workplace (no keyboard/mouse)

The consortium aims at the development of market-ready voice-driven or multimodal business software applications. The development will be flanked by scientifically engineered methodologies and evaluations to achieve high usability and positive user experience and acceptance.
